Oxford RF to lead the £2.5m 5D RAPID project
Oxford RF is pleased to announce the £2.5 million project called 5D RAPID, an acronym for “5D Radar Perception for Intelligent Driving”. The project is funded by the UK Government the CAM Pathfinder Demonstrate programme.
The 5D RAPID project, led by Oxford RF, combines the expertise of leading organisations working on connected and automated mobility in the UK, including IPG Automotive, Cranfield University, Coventry University, ECOSAR Tech, and Halo Drive.
Oxford RF’s founder and CEO Dr Kashif Siddiq, sharing his thoughts on the project, said: “The 5D RAPID project aims to deliver advanced, scalable 5D radar perception to the automated‑driving market, enabling faster and more reliable understanding of moving objects with fewer sensors than current state‑of‑the‑art systems. This work will support the growth of UK‑developed ADAS and automated‑driving sensing products, providing clear market differentiation and a meaningful contribution to the UK economy.”
“Oxford RF’s 5D Radar introduces platform‑agnostic, multi‑view sensing that delivers true vector‑velocity: motion both along and across the road. Traditional 4D radars measure only longitudinal velocity and must rely on stitching together multiple frames to infer lateral motion, which is slow and error‑prone. By contrast, 5D Radar provides instantaneous lateral velocity, enabling a fast, stable understanding of scene dynamics, which is a prerequisite for reliable higher‑level autonomy.”

Oxford RF will build on its solid-state 360° sensing technologies (https://oxrf.co.uk/h360-series/) currently deployed in commercial robotics platforms.
